WHY CHARGE?

After considerable thought the Board of Christ Church cathedral decided that visitors would be asked to pay an entry charge.

There are huge costs involved in running this beautiful place on a day-to-day basis and its preservation for the future. Its costs up to €100 each hour to pay for the Cathedrals' lighting, heating, choirs and organists, preparation of services, the preservation of the historic monuments, and stained glass, not forgetting the security of our visitors.

DON'T YOU GET HELP FROM CENTRAL CHURCH FUNDS OR GOVERNMENT?
Unlike Cathedrals in some other European countries, we do not receive any state aid to maintain this church; therefore we rely on you, the visitor to keep our doors open.

WHAT IF WE WANT TO ATTEND A SERVICE?
We do not charge those entering to attend a service, or for private prayer. If you are coming for this purpose, please inform a volunteer at the Welcome Desk.

IS CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL THE ONLY CATHEDRAL THAT MAKES A CHARGE?
No. More and more Cathedrals and Churches are being forced to make a charge in some form or another.

WHY SHOULD MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH OF IRELAND HAVE TO PAY?
Again, we make no charge for those attending a service or for private prayer. If you visit simply to look around, we do ask you to pay.

We hope this explanation may have gone some way to help you understand why we had to make the decision to charge visitors to Christ Church Cathedral Dublin.
