COMPOSITION COMPETITION 2007
The Music Department and Friends of Christ Church Cathedral are pleased to announce the winner of the 2007 Christ Church Composition Competition. The winning entry, The Judge Will Come, was composed by Aengus Ó Maoláin, a Music and Modern Irish student at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. Aengus is a member of the Young Composers Collective and has studied with Martin O'Leary, Tomas Elnaes, Jane O'Leary and Michael McGlynn.

The second prize went to David Bremner for his composition O Eternal Trinity! Thou art as Deep a Mystery as the Sea. David graduated from Keble College, Oxford in 1999 and was Organ Scholar at Christ Church from 2001-2003. He is currently studying for an M.Phil in composition at DIT under the supervision of Dr Gráinne Mulvey. Our congratulations to both composers.

The final round of the competition was judged by Dr. Robert Saxton, fellow of Worcester College, Oxford. Dr. Saxton was very excited to be involved and was impressed with the overall high standard of entries. The prizes of €700 and €300 respectively will be awarded after the performance of the winning composition at Choral Evensong on Sunday 3 June. We thank all who entered the competition for their talent and hard work, and offer our sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Saxton for lending us his time and expertise in the judging of the competition.

NEW ORGAN SCHOLAR APPOINTED
We are pleased to announce that, following the audition and interview of the four short–listed candidates on 8 February, John Mountford has been appointed Organ Scholar at Christ Church from 1 September 2007. A graduate of the University of Bristol, where he held the Organ Scholarship at the University Church of St Paul, he is currently Organ Scholar of Chichester Cathedral. Congratulations to John and we look forward to welcoming him to Christ Church in September.

ADVENT PROCESSION TO BE RELEASED ON DVD
