PRESS RELEASE
FIRST CD OF THE
CHOIR OF CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL
The Choir of Christ Church Cathedral's first commercial CD has been released on December 10th. Entitled The Complete Morning and Evening Services and Offices for Holy Communion (Volume Three) of Sir Charles Villiers Stanford, the disc is the first in a series of recordings with Priory Records, Britain's premier church music label.
Recorded in Christ Church Cathedral's glorious acoustic and conducted by Organist and Director of Music, Mark Duley, the works included are the anthem For lo, I raise up, The Queen's Service (first recording), The Festal Communion Service in B flat (first recording), Evening Service in E flat (first recording), and Three motets Op. 135, comprising Glorious and powerful God, Eternal Father and Ye holy angels bright.
The CD also features the fine playing of assistant organist at the cathedral, Andrew Johnstone, on the renowned 1984 Kenneth Jones instrument at Christ Church. This is a long-awaited disc from a choir whose profile has risen steadily in this country and abroad since 1992, with tours and residencies in Ireland, England and France, aside from its regular schedule of concerts at home, and broadcasts on RTÉ Radio 1 and FM3, the BBC World Service and BBC Radio 3.
