WHY SUPPORT YOUR CATHEDRAL?

The cathedral's financial needs will not be met by any one constituency (i.e. private companies, trusts, individuals, or parishes) but the support from each group is inter-dependent. Before we can successfully seek support from outside, we must show that we have the support of the diocesan parishes and those who are interested in the conservation and development of this city. A strong and enthusiastic response now will greatly influence what we can ask of others.

  • Christ Church Cathedral is one of the top tourist attractions in Dublin and is synonymous with the city. This important resource should be encouraged and developed.
  • Christ Church Cathedral is the oldest building standing in Dublin and is an important part of our heritage.
  • Christ Church Cathedral cares for its varied community. Through the generosity of its visitors, the cathedral has been able to support the good work undertaken by its neighbours including St Vincent de Paul and the Franciscans. Through the development of our resources, that level of caring can be expanded and extended.

The present appeal, Christ Church 2000, has the joint patronage of both the Roman Catholic and Church of Ireland Archbishops of Dublin. The importance of the cathedral extends well beyond the confines of one denomination.

The need is urgent. The wiring has been condemned as "a potential fire hazard and danger to life and property". The stonework is crumbling and many of the windows are in danger of simply 'caving in'. We must ensure that not only is the cathedral safeguarded against ruination but is also developed to its full potential for future generations. Please give this matter your heartfelt consideration and give whatever you can now or over the next five years.
