THE CATHEDRAL MUSIC

The Cathedral Choir

The cathedral has an ever-growing reputation for fine liturgy and music, with two choirs - the principal Cathedral Choir, comprised of both men and women, and the Girls' Choir. Both choirs are fully ecumenical in their ensemble and both benefit from the musical training which the cathedral instils.

It is intended that the musical tradition be developed as part of the cathedral's ecumenical outreach by funding organ and choral scholarships founding a Cathedral Orchestra (Christ Church Baroque), developing the Music Library, establishing an events programme, and overhauling the Cathedral Organ.

Funds already raised through Christ Church 2000 enabled new lighting and flooring to be installed in the Cathedral Music Room - one of the most impressive assets of the Cathedral, which extends over the first floor of the Chapter House. Apart from being used by the Cathedral Choirs and visiting choirs for rehearsals, this room can also serve as a venue for functions and social occasions.
