These came into being following the Disestablishment of the Church of Ireland
in 1870 when the cathedral also ceased being governed alone by a clerical
chapter, but a Board consisting of lay and clerical members who administer
the cathedral. |

To separate the deanery of the cathedral of the Holy Trinity, commonly
called Christ Church, from that of the collegiate church of St Patrick,
and to provide for the future regulation and management of the said
cathedral of the Holy Trinity, commonly called Christ Church, Dublin.

To remove an anomaly. The first two Clerical Vicars, no longer
being full-time, and receiving only a nominal stipend, cannot be expected
to "give their undivided attention to the service of the Cathedral"
nor be bound by the terms of the deeds of endowment.
